The long and tumultuous history of the town can be seen through a number of artefacts from various periods, including a large number of Roman tegulae bearing workshop stamps, ceramic and glass items dating from the Antique, Late Antique, medieval and late medieval periods, as well as money, earrings and other small metal items spanning the 10th and 17th centuries.
The oldest site from the Antiquity (1 – 6th century AD) is the necropolis on the southern slopes of the Sutvid Hill.
